Taiwan - Pccw Signs With Era And Gigamedia 05/09/00 HONG KONG, CHINA, 2000 MAY 9 (NB) -- ByStaff, itdaily. ERA is a large Taiwan multimedia conglomerate and perhaps one of the world's biggest producers of Chinese content. GigaMedia is a Taiwanese broadband Internet access and content provider and a member of the Koos Group. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between these Taiwanese content moguls and Pacific Century Cyberworks (PCCW) is said to lay down guidelines for the building of a "powerful and far-reaching broadband and multimedia Internet content and distribution company" for the Asia-Pacific region.
According to a press release, ERA's TV, film and portal content production capabilities in Taiwan generate more than 3,500 hours of original Chinese TV content per year. Koo's Group businesses include cable television, media, mobile phone operations and financial services.
Initially, a distribution joint venture is to be developed with GigaMedia owning 51 percent, ERA 45 percent and Koo's Group four percent the joint venture is to be responsible for the global distribution of the content produced by the content joint-venture company.
