Taiwan's GigaMedia Inks Broadband Deal With Singapore ONE 05/31/00 SINGAPORE, 2000 MAY 31 (NB) -- By Adam Creed, Newsbytes. Two Asian broadband Internet service and content providers, Nasdaq-listed GigaMedia [NASDAQ:GIGM] from Taiwan and Singapore ONE, have joined up to swap content and applications between their networks.

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, which is a government agency behind much of the development of Singapore ONE, inked the agreement with GigaMedia last week.

GigaMedia's Chinese content will be accessible on Singapore ONE, while Singapore ONE content and applications will be available to Taiwan broadband users.

Singapore ONE was commercially launched in 1998 and is now accessible to almost all Singapore homes and businesses. Subscribers are estimated to be at around 100,000, with a target of 400,000 by the end of 2001.

GigaMedia had 18,630 broadband subscribers at March 31, 2000, and through deals with Taiwan cable TV operators its network passes by over 3.8 million homes.

The Taiwanese operator recently signed similar deals with broadband ISP Thrunet in Korea and Pacific Century CyberWorks in Hong Kong.
