Shin Corps Plans Satellite Internet Delivery 06/07/00 SINGAPORE, 2000 JUN 7 (NB) -- By Adam Creed, Newsbytes. Shin Satellite, the owner and operator of the Thaicom fleet of satellites and a unit of the country's largest telecom company Shin Corporations, is planning to add high-speed Internet services to its broadcast and consumer offerings. Internet services, streaming video and audio will be offered direct to satellite TV customers and Thai Internet service providers over existing satellite links.
Shin Satellite is preparing to set up the infrastructure necessary to roll out the new offerings.
The company just recently selected US-based SkyStream Networks to provide networking products to enable the services. This includes SkyStream routers that inject Internet protocol (IP) data into MPEG-based broadcast streams that are then distributed to satellite TV users or ISP or broadcast network points of presence.
The deal, which was announced at BroadcastAsia in Singapore this week, is one of several SkyStream has signed in Asia. The company also inked deals with Advent Television, a digital television company developing datacasting services in Singapore, and Pacific Convergence Corporation, the broadband Internet services arm of Hong Kong's Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd.
