C&W HKT On Track For ADSL Network Launch 08/01/00 SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A., 2000 AUG 1 (NB) -- By Adam Creed, Newsbytes. Hong Kong's largest telephone company, Cable & Wireless HKT, is preparing to expand the range of channels it can use to deliver broadband multimedia content to consumers in the Special Administrative Region.
The carrier, about to be taken over by Internet company Pacific Century CyberWorks and with links to News Corp's Star TV, will soon add digital subscriber line (DSL) to its range of cable and satellite high-speed Internet access services.
DSL provides high-speed Internet access via ordinary copper telephone lines, with the additional convenience of multiple services - Internet, fax, voice - without disconnecting.
Cisco Systems [NASDAQ:CSCO] has just deployed the ADSL network for HKT, which forms the core of its broadband DSL service in Hong Kong. The new network links directly into HKT's Internet network, which already offers the Netvigator broadband service.
