Hmmm.... Aren't we all forgetting something:

Microsoft is best at windows, and it's has a huge momentum built up in this direction. If windows were to survive as THE desktop o/s then they would win. People would not continue buying netscape when they got a *mature* explorer for free.

HOWEVER! Windows is dead. JavaOS is going to be the future. An operating system which is written in java and executes on java compatible cpus (like sun's picojava chip). Many companies are licensing Javos (nortel,xerox...) and NEC others have licensed the right to produce java chips.

Things like Sun's upcoming JavaStation which has inside a microjava (I think?) chip running a JavaOs o/s which in turn supports a browser written in java is going to be the new platform of choice.

If netscape are looking to blow away microsoft, they have to port netscape browser to JavaOS.

Adios windows. Adios Microsoft.
