Talking about deflation, Lehman Brothers analyst Dan Niles said Intel plans a sharp drop in prices later this month in an effort to thwart the inroads being made by rival AMD. "For those who thought the price war was aggressive, you haven't seen anything yet," Niles wrote:

On another note, I can't say I'm surprised that the Justice Department has opened an antitrust investigation of the online-music business, focusing on two new joint ventures backed by major record labels. The investigation, still at a preliminary stage, according to the Wall Street Journal, will study pressplay CQ, jointly owned by Sony Corp (SNE) and Vivendi Universal SA (V) and working with Microsoft (MSFT), and MusicNet, partly owned by AOL Time Warner (AOL), EMI Group and Bertelsmann AG's BMG Music Entertainment and based on RealNetworks Inc (RNWK). |
