Mentor Graphics Aims At Lasting Development in China

BEIJING (May 29) XINHUA - Mentor Graphics Co., a major supplier of
electronic design automation (EDA) facilities in US, announced today
that it will further enhance its development in China through expanding
the technological cooperation with local partners.

Wally Rhines, president of the Oregon-headquartered company, said that
the business of Mentor Graphics is expected to maintain a two-digit
increase on the Chinese market, which had on an annual growth of 30
percent over the past few years.

Wally said that from this year, the company will invite its Chinese
partner to join in the EDA design, and will establish a technical
training center here, so as to expedite the transfer of the latest
technical achievements to China.

These cooperative projects could absorb millions of US dollars, the
president noted.

Local industrial analysts said that the ambitious cooperation program
of Mentor Graphics signals the company's transformation from a mere
supplier of EDA products to a long-term partner in the country's
booming electronics industry.

To survive the increasingly rigorous competition with foreign and local
suppliers, only the role of a long-term partner can guarantee the
company with a stable market share in the Chinese market, which ranks
the most rapidly growing in the world, they said.

Entering China in 1989, Mentor Graphics now has nearly 200 customers in
China, with its products widely used in the fields of
telecommunications, computers, aviation, ship building, and
semiconductors.

The company has founded training bases in Capital Steel and Iron
Corporation and Fudan University, and launched representative offices
in Shanghai, Nanjing, Chengdu, and Xi'an.
