These exist in the US, but don't have quite the same power. A good example is Chicago. I remember when a major computer show was held in Chicago. The union insisted that all equipment had to be hauled into the showroom and setup by union personel. The result was nearly a dozen exhibitors having one of a kind demo equipment destroyed by these trained gorillas. The exhibitors vowed to never attend another computer show in Chicago. But, after the city pressured the union to concede the rights of exhibitors to carry their own equipment into the showroom and set it up, the exhibitors decided they would return to Chicago.
