Kibby, David,,, YOU STILL CAN'T EDIT COMPRESSED VIDEO...................
I don't care what FutureTel or anyone else tells you, you still have to decompress at some level to determine frame, field, etc. I haven't seen GVG switchers working in that domain YET. And how are you going to add special effects to already compressed signals? Come on! There are some good booklets and white papers available from Tektronix on basic video and digital video for broadcast and post production engineers...

JPEG is what most digital editing systems have used because they are a series of still images.
Spent the day at PC Expo today... Saw the MPEG1 periphials attached to parallel ports.. not bad. DVD marketing rep for CCube explained lack of interest in MPEG2 format for MVP since it is a PC based tool and that level of resolution is not necessary for average video inserted into a desktop presentation, besides, would require an inordinate amount of storage. Too much so to justify MPEG2 resolution. When DVD RAM media comes down to CDR price levels of ~$3.00 per disk, may be of interest.
Most of the people visiting the CCube booth were either stock brokers or investors wanting to know more about company..... interesting.
I hope I dont come off negatively, but we go round and round about these same subjects at work.
