Without minimizing the extreme sacrifices of the Russian people during WWII, how many of their 10 million dead were killed by the German Wehrmacht and how many were murdered by Stalin and his cohorts?

If I remember my history correctly, at the beginning of WWII, the Russian army had practically no experienced officers left after a series of purges. This made the military situation much worse than it needed to be and causing many more casualties than would have been otherwise necessary.

Reasonable people can have legitimate arguments about economic and political systems, but there can be no doubt that Stalin was at least as nasty a bad guy as was Hitler.
