<And I didn't mean to say that there is necessarily anything good about the Western conquest of the entire world. They were just meaner and more aggressive and monomaniacal than anyone else >

Of course there was something necessarily good about the Western 'conquest' of the entire world. That's why the entire world continues to adopt 'western' concepts. They make life civilized, more prosperous and better almost any way you measure it.

India hasn't got rid of the British stuff. Neither has Hong Kong. Nor Japan [which they got via the USA]. Neither has the USA.

They were NOT "just meaner and more aggressive". That's stupid and ignorant of legal, mercantile, democratic, ethical and other norms which the British instigated around the world.

If the West was so bad, people would dump those norms when the British left. Some have done, so go and enjoy the happy British-free lifestyle of many parts of Africa where British influence disappeared decades ago. They were better off with British 'rulers'. The USA expanded by voluntary association because the rules and civilization are beneficial. That process continues with Nafta, WTO, UN etc. Western concepts. People like them.

Slavery, cannibalism, totalitarianism, tribalism, superstition etc are horrible ways to live. The West replaced them. Good riddance.
