Why is that? You're right -- I just don't get it. Because there are very few places on Earth relatively free of encroachment and this place was set aside to be one. The oil is not worth violating that principle nor risking upsetting the balance that exists there. "Other than to kill a few plants and animals that are no different from the corn we harvest and beef we slaughter each day. We need them, we use them for our own purposes. If it is necessary to kill a few thousand animals to better our own lives, we do it. I've swatted at least four or five flies sitting here today. What's the difference?". Same as above.
