Piers Hartland-Swann Joins Bear Stearns Telecom Group in Hong Kong

NEW YORK, New York, Aug 2, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. announced today that Piers Hartland-Swann has agreed to join the firm as a senior managing director in the Telecom Group, responsible for leading the firm's Asian telecom industry practice, based in Hong Kong.

Commenting on the appointment, Jeffery Urwin, co-head of investment banking said, "The hiring of Piers is another important step in the continued growth and development of our global telecom franchise and our commitment to the Asian marketplace."

Donald Tang, chairman of Bear Stearns Asia Limited, added, "Piers offers a wealth of experience, having worked with many of the region's leading telecommunications companies. Alongside our existing relationship bankers in the region, Piers and his team will be very effective in leveraging our excellent contacts and track record in China and the rest of the region, and will work toward building additional relationships in the sector."

Mr. Hartland-Swann joins Bear Stearns from UBS Warburg, where he spent the past 14 years. Most recently, he had been head of Asian telecom, responsible for several notable deals, including advising Pacific Century CyberWorks (PCCW) on its acquisition of Hong Kong Telecom and assuming the global coordinator role for the international offerings of Korea Telecom. Mr. Hartland-Swann holds a BSc from Kings College, University of London.

In addition, Bear Stearns announced that Angela Lee will join the Asian telecom industry practice as a vice president to work with Mr. Hartland-Swann in Hong Kong. Ms. Lee joins from Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, where she spent about five years working on the global TMT corporate finance team in London, Hong Kong and most recently Tokyo. Ms. Lee holds a BA from Brown University and MBA from Clark University.
