<Any money Intel is making is from selling 866MHZ to 1GHZ PIIIs for $150 to $200 as corporate boxes. They decided to kill off that business next quarter. They may find they've made a terrible mistake.>

The stupidity of the PIII phase-out and an all-out push of P4 into IT accounts boggles my mind. I don't understand it. AMD is not forcing this move. On the contrary, the lack of continuity and P4's power requirements will help AMD to get the foot in the door. I think its a knee-jerk reaction to fill the FABs at any cost. Remember last year Intel was ramping 180nm capacity like mad among projections of multi-year shortages. Now they are trying to use the equipment before they have to throw it in the dumpster. I have no other explanations at this point.

It is like eating rancid food because it has been paid for.
