One of the many revisionist myths was that the Vietnam War was won by the Viet Cong. That geurrilla movement was virtually wiped out during the "Tet" offensive in 1968. The remainder of the war was fought by the North Vietnamese regular army, in tanks and APC's, with full Soviet support. In 1975, when the US completed it's withdrawal, and the Clark Amendment eliminated all US air cover in the theatre, the North Vietnamese army launched a traditional European-style blitzkreig against the remainder of South Vietnam, which ended the war.
Within three years, DeGaulle's vision was proven out, as hundreds of thousands of Vietmamese took to the open sea on anything that would float, to escape the "workers paradise" not unlike that which Puff, "Little Dick", Teddy and Hillary would like to create here.
The difference, of course, is that, while the Vietnamese exodus was dangerous, and killed many of those freedom-loving refugees, WE have nowhere to run if those forces succeed here. |
