Are these guys wacked or what? - Intel's Pentium 4 comes with better yields and lower material costs, said Anand Chandrasekher, Intel's vice president of architecture and marketing. Those efficiencies could help stabilize Intel's profits amid an ongoing price war with rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NYSE:AMD - news)

But the Pentium 4 chip, made using smaller geometries, meaning that Intel can get more chips out of a single wafer and put more transistors on a chip, won't be available in large quantities until late August, wrote Lehman Brothers analyst Dan Niles in a note to clients on Monday.

Pentium 4 -- better yields than WHAT? Surely not Pentium III. The Intelabees have long told us that Intel yields are in the 90% range. So with more than twice the die size, I guess P4 yields are 180%.

Did Dan Niles really say that P4's with "smaller geometry" will be available in late August? Do the P4's with more pins have a small die size reduction? Or was Dan talking about the slightly smaller package which has an almost insignificant effect on cost?
