COMPAQ Concession? <He believes that a Zip-like product is more marketable as an after-market item than in an OEM. "The Zips are selling, but as an aftermarket item. They're a great aftermarket item. It may be one of the best add-ons ever introduced.">

As we have recently passed the anniversary of Battle of Gettysburg (and my point is?), the army that holds the high ground will win the battle. IMHO if we own the aftermarket front then we have won the standards battle. Consumers will determine what they want as a standard; to say they want more speed is a nice diversion - but that's like saying they want a V8 engine instead of an airbag. Airbag? Two recent little add-ons that have emerged form the aftermarket battlefield and become a standard item include the CD-ROM and the airbag. Neither had anything to do with power, but both were desired items that the manufacturer finally had to include.

We are in "Day Three" of the battle and Pickett's charge has stalled.
