Users don't get _interested_ in a desktop. They just use it and demand something that does the job. Linux gets its place on desktops where central IT administration finds out how to save millions of dollars on a solution without compromising functionality etc., or where they find out how to do a solution better by choosing KDE or Gnome. My mother (house wife), my wife (teacher), my nephiew (cab driver) and my uncle (currency investor) have switched from Windows to Linux and are happy with the change. My father (self-employed consultant) wants to switch from Windows 2000 to Linux after seeing how it went with my mother... Lars.
