Why are all the press whining about the President in Texas for a month.
The Media's Unhappy Texas Vacation

The press has done a pretty good job of beating up on
President Bush for spending the month of August in Texas
-- so much so that a majority of those surveyed by one
pollster said they thought he was taking too much time
away from the White House.

In fact, nothing would please reporters more than forcing
Bush to make his first presidential summer vacation in
Texas his last.

But it's not because they're concerned that the Commander
in Chief is away from his post. Or really think Bush is
lazy for taking four weeks off. Reporters know the White
House travels wherever the president goes these days.

The real reason journalists are bashing Bush's vacation is
that they don't want to spend three more Augusts in the
sweltering heat of Crawford, TX, pop. 671, where the food
offends their haute cuisine palates and the nightlife is
nonexistant.

One NewsMax.com reader who was traveling through Bush
country Monday shared this revealing anecdote.

"We stopped at a nice local restaurant for lunch.... The
board outside read, 'George, Laura -- Come in for lunch.'

"Several of the press corps at the restaurant were
complaining about having been sent out to Texas to cover
the president's vacation -- the hot weather, the small
town and they could be in other parts of the world
covering other stories."

Our reader surmised that the press is miserable covering
Bush's vacation -- not only because there's not much to do
in sun-baked Crawford -- but because they're surrounded by
Texans who love the Bushes.

"Now they're in Mr. Bush's court, surrounded by people
who, for the most part, support him. So in order to
prevent this uncomfortable situation from recurring,
they're badmouthing him."
