I think they mean that the merger between Maxtor and Quantum is not going as well as it was hoped. And Maxtor greater than expected loss made it unanimous. All three disk makers lost money last Q (including Seagate). It also means that wdc might have an advantage in cost. Since wdc broke even on operations last Q. (or came very close), whereas Maxtor lost approx $35 m.

The gist of it I think Maxtor's loss will work to WDC's gain.
