Dear Tench:

I thought that both Intel and AMD made money in Q2 by GAAP standards. AMD forecast that if the worst case scenario happened, it might, repeat, might lose money in Q3. Intel plans to continue the price war after they forecast they would not (in the Q2 CC) that things would go back to normal. Well, they haven't and the situation is closer to what AMD forecast than what Intel did. Using that worst case scenario, Intel loses $100's of millions in Q3. Say AMD loses $0.03 per share in Q3, the same situation would cause Intel to lose around $0.13 per share. A number that low for GAAP earnings would make the "Pro Forma" numbers in the red as well for Intel. What would Intel stock do when the "L" word comes up for their Q3 report? "Crash, crumple, crinkle, panic!"

Pete
