Toshiba to cut DRAM output at Japan plant by 60%
TOKYO, Aug 8 (Reuters) - Japan's biggest chip maker Toshiba Corp said on Wednesday it would slash its DRAM (dynamic random access memory) chip output at its Yokkaichi plant in Japan by 60 percent from the end of September to cope with sluggish demand.

Japanese chipmakers have been plagued with excess inventory as global demand for semiconductors remains sluggish. Toshiba is the latest to announce a chip production cut.

``We have decided to adjust production at Yokkaichi in order to reconstruct the operation of our memory business,'' a Toshiba spokesman said.

Toshiba's Yokkaichi plant is now producing 11.5 million DRAM chips a month. It will reduce the production to 4.5 million chips from late September, the spokesmans aid.
