I agree that the trading volume could have easily absorbed McLeod's stock without drastically affecting the trading price. However, IMO the Directors were wise to worry about the kind of signal that an insider sale from the CEO would have sent, especially at that time. FYI, the loan was actually requested in late 1996, but wasn't finally agreed upon until early 1997.
