Addi, there is a big difference between hope and wishful thinking. Besides, I don't think a prolonged bear market is necessarily going to hurt the economy in the longer run. As Buffett said in his interview to "Fortune" a couple of years ago, the stock market might average real (after adjusting for inflation) annualized gains of about 4% in the next 17 years (from 1999) but the economy would have grown too, increasing the wages and improving the living standards of people.
