Back in my old days I ran the oxygen generator or "the bomb" as it was fondly called on my nuke submarine. I seem to remember it taking an awful lot of electricity to separate the water using electrolyses. Leave's you with 2 part hydrogen that we discharged overboard and 1 part pure oxygen that we stored. Those 2 gas's mishandled can make a pretty spectacular show, one I don't care to see.

I haven't looked much into these things but have always had this vision of the roads full of piss poor drivers with tanks full of hydrogen looking for a place to meet and blow up:)
