I want to buy Tencor also. However, you need to remember that only 3 things create a demand for Tencor's surface scan products.
1) a switch in wafer sizes ( 300 mm wafers are not here yet ).
2) new fabs
3) replacing the old with the new. The next generation of
microprocessors and RAMs will have geometries of <0.25 microns.

300 mm wafers aren't here yet. Sematech are still creating guidelines for 300 mm tools and processes. The conversion from 200 mmm to 300 mm will be slow because of the cost.

With the recent crashes in RAM prices and the surplus of RAM chips (thanks to Nerd boy of Microsoft), most of the orders have been pushed-out to next year. Next year orders have been pushed-out and/or cancelled.

Several key Semi manufacturers have put a hold on construction of new fabs.

With this in mind, I am very skeptical of the tech stocks. On the other hand, the scum-bag stock analysts manipulate the market by making statements to drive up prices for stocks that they own, only to dump them when they reach their target. Since Tencor has a very desireable PE Ratio, one of the scum-bags are bound to drive it. But when is the question...
