-- DJ Boston Beer Co Pulls Ads Featuring Actor Ben Affleck -- BOSTON (AP)--The Boston Beer Co. (SAM), which brews Samuel Adams beer, has pulled radio ads featuring Oscar-winning actor Ben Affleck, who recently entered a live-in alcohol abuse rehabilitation facility, the company said Wednesday. The company decided the ads were now inappropriate. Affleck, who turns 29 on Aug. 15, voluntarily entered the treatment center July 31. "The Boston Beer Co. respects Ben Affleck, his decision, and we wish him well," the company said in a statement. The radio spots promoted a contest for amateur screenwriters sponsored in part by Affleck and fellow actor and Cambridge, Mass., native Matt Damon. They featured Affleck accepting a beer from Boston Beer founder Jim Koch before he and Damon start making crank calls to Hollywood moguls. The company also pulled a photo of Affleck, beer in hand, from the Samuel Adams Web site after a reporter called Monday to inquire about it. Affleck and Damon won Academy Awards for writing the screenplay for 1997's "Good Will Hunting." (END) DOW JONES NEWS 08-08-01 07:58 PM- - 07 58 PM EDT 08-08-01
