Well, some are pushing other envelopes. Matrix, the Spielberg film on the holocaust the name of which will come to me, are examples of movies pushing the envelope in what I would consider artistic, not gratituous directions. But you're right in general -- pushing the sex and violence envelopes. The question that arose quite a few posts ago was whether that is purely a response to consumer demand, for commercial purposes, or whether it is driven in part by the directors' desires to push the envelope for their own artistic (or egotistic) reasons. I suspect it's a combination, but I don't know how much of which factors.
