But the environment in the US is in better shape now then in 1970. The air and water are much cleaner, so the environmentalist shouldn't really see himself as losing as much as being in a tough continual close fought battle, with encourageing signs of progress. For the property rights activists - He was flat out losing until relatively recently. Some factors may have moved things in his direction but unless the trend picks up steam it might be like scoring a touchdown when you are down 35-7 late in the 4Q.

Tim, things are better than the 70's but that does not mean they are good. Do you think LA or Houston or DC have clean air? In some places like Seattle, the air is getting worse. Many of our lakes and rivers are cleaner but still polluted. The level of damage is so severe in some places it will take decades for the problem to clear up..i.e. mercury pollution in lakes. There is a lake near Syracuse, NY that is so polluted, it doesn't freeze in the winter...and it gets cold in Syracuse...below zero. On a shot summer's day, the lake smells so bad you want to heave as you pass by it. I don't think it can be saved ever. The number of environmentally degraded sites in this country is huge.

Like I have said before, there is no other recourse. Our land and resources are not infinitesimal. There are limits that have to be placed to protect everyone's well being not just those who need to make lots of $$$.

I know our resources are not infinitesimal. I think you meant infinite.

Infinite sounds good. <g>

By way of explanation, I am wiped...I stayed up late last nite, looking at charts, only to not trade this AM because the MARKET SUCKS THE BIG ONE!! Damn, I am so tired of this up and down, going no where market. One day a stock is up, the next down...today I wanted to buy more of one of my winners...SHOO....its done a major dip in the last week and I know things are okay. But who could be sure it had gone as far down as it was going to....some of the major support levels for the general markets were broken today. So does that mean we crash tomorrow or go back up? Will SHOO crash with the others? Its sucks. And, of course, as it turned out SHOO closed up for the day.

You can't win for trying!!
