There also were signs that the tech sector, while not rebounding, appears
to be at or near bottom. A Chicago-area telecommunications equipment
official said "excessive inventories had been worked down and should be
at desired levels by the end of August." The official predicted -- based on
a "gut feeling" -- that the industry will begin recovering in the fourth quarter
