The issue here isn't between 423 and 478, but rather between 478 and 370.

370 doesn't host the highest performing processors, but it hosts lower power processors. The small, quiet boxes that made possible gave Intel a real advantage in the "cubicle" market.

Now Intel is demanding that corporate buyers migrate to a platform that is as bulkier and noisier than AMD's Athlon platform, abandoning what had been a significant advantage for them. Can they do as well without it? Maybe, yes, maybe no. We'll see how it works out.
