From one fine person to another:

Wandering by the thread this morning for a few minutes and thought I'd throw out- at the risk of ruining my illustrious intellectual reputation ( a joke, guys)- that I've seen a couple of Fear Factors and found it far less offensive and in no worse taste than most sitcoms or any Jerry Springer show (which isn't saying much at all). Of course you can only watch people eat worms or be dragged by wild horses for a limited amount of time before boredom sets in, I would think. Dan made it through one worm-eating and walked out. Still, it seems no worse than most of the crap on TV, and hardly merits the "end of civilization" talk that surrounds it and others of its ilk. If Jerry Springer hasn't destroyed us, I can't imagine what will.

Also, weighing in on prayer-- generic prayer before Congress seems more ritual than belief and not offensive if its general, but I STILL am rankled by our high school graduation that allowed a student to pray before the presentation of diplomas and he gave one of those really YOung New Agey Christian prayers --the ones that use the phrase "I just really want to thank you, Jesus" numerous times and invoke "Your Son, who died for us..." when sitting right in back of him were Jewish, Moslem, atheist kids. That was RUDE, and the school should not allow it. That's the kind of thing that causes non-religious types to go up in arms, and with reason.
