Maybe I misunderstood what Petz said: "AMD spends some money wisely on marketing, they'll only have 2.5 million CPU's to sell, instead of 3.5 million, because sales rates were higher during the quarter."

I think he meant if they spend money wisely on marketing then more Athlons will move during the quarter so when the end of the quarter is approaching they only have to dump 2.5mil on the market instead of 35. mil. The other million will have already sold, and dumping less on the market at the end of the Q will mean that ASPs do not drop as much (plus the million would have sold before the drop).

Maybe Petz can weigh in on whether either of us has a clue as to what he meant.
