I can't comment on Carter, but I can't leave the second question, off-topic or not. No! I graduated MA, PhD from Cambridge, UK, in Math. Admission required being in the top 0.5%. Active Christians were a much higher proportion there than in the country as a whole, and tended to be the best students. I still know lots of believers who are way up there in IQ.
