I try to listen to their point of view, then see if I can refute any of what they say. The practice improves my understanding, assuming I don't get overwhelmed by bullish or bearish 'facts'. The contrary investor stuff was interesting, a source of entertainment if you will, and the author is exercising his right to collect subscription income from those willing to pony up for that entertainment. The material doesn't provide the same level of satisfaction for me now that it did 6 months ago. Perhaps the result of spending too much time in the Fed Flow of Funds reports, and the NIPA data, seeing the data first hand.
