This is really a thorny issue regarding offering prayer at commencements or other school functions.

I agree with you about the "tone" of prayer which was offered, and think that some judgement and sensitivity to others is called for.

OTOH, you run into a freedom of expression situation when you try to "restrict" the type of prayer (wording, etc).

I am personally not offended by someone expressing their beliefs. I have my own set of beliefs and hearing other perspectives isn't threatening to me. But I agree with you that it just seems more socially acceptable to "pray" in a manner that is somehow more "generic".
