No, Intel reduced prices to accelerate the transition from the 386 to the 486. I was there.

I also got this in the mail at work today:

"In summary we are slashing our EPS estimates by 39%, margin projections by 25% and downgrading INTC to a sell. We strongly suggest
that our clients underweight INTC as we view the steep price cuts as clear evidence that the PC industry has reached saturation and will struggle to achieve growth beyond 4-6% y/y at best."

Sound familiar? It was written by an analyst in 1992 as a direct result of Intel's price reductions. His interpretation mirrors many of today's anlysts. Some people never learn.....
