JFS, I didn't say the Catholic church was conservative. I said they were rigid in their thinking, and pontificating. As I said to gm, the largest is not necessarily the best. Very often it is quite to the contrary. The hundreds of Bible "scholars" are kept around to interpret the Bible, and skew it, to satisfy whichever Pope is in power at the time. I have many friends that worship in the Catholic church who are dedicated, and quite decent, people, but when it comes to the hierarchy in Rome, it is just another political hotbed. All sorts of intrigue, and back stabbing, goes on in the selection (election) of a Pope. Any Pope is no closer to God than any other human being that is a true believer.
