Pete, <<<That was a direct quote from the post. The 347,045 servers was for US unit sales. Go back and read that post quoting CBS Marketwatch. >>>

You know darn well the CBS Marketwatch reported Q2 server sales of 973,784 from the beginning of the report. You chose to use the US unit sales figure hidden in a later paragraph in a deceitful manner.

<<<You do know what a lower bound is?>>>

Do you know disingenuous?

I digressed. Here is an example that you will be seeing more and more of illustrating CPU to system ratios.

<<<Intel today announced that its Itanium(TM) family of processors will be used to build a distributed scientific computing system expected to be the largest of its kind in the world. The computing system, dubbed the ``TeraGrid,'' is part of a $53 million award by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to four facilities to address complex scientific research by creating a Distributed Terascale Facility (DTF). The TeraGrid will link computers powered by more than 3,300 Intel® Itanium family processors . It will be capable of more than 13.6 trillion calculations per second (13.6 teraflops) and have the ability to store, access and share more than 450 trillion bytes of information. >>>

Using a conservative lower/upper bound Itanium processor cost of $3000/6000, the 3300 Itanium processors would account for $9.9M - $19.8M cost of the $53M system or 18-36 % of system (not server) cost that include ability to store, access and share more than 450 trillion bytes of information.
