Tom, Just because Peter went to Rome to work to further the Christian cause there, his participation in starting the Roman Catholic church is a fantasy on their part, IMO. In Israel, Jesus told Peter that he was a rock, and upon that rock he would build His church. He said nothing about that church being built in Rome. The Bible also tells us that His church consists of every human that believes in Him as Lord, and Savior. That has nothing to do with a denomination, or building of cement, brick, and steel. The only proof that Peter actually started the Catholic church, is found in Catholic writings, which are hardly objective.
Jesus told his disciples that they should tell no man the he was the Christ until the time of His crucifixion was upon Him. Then the disciples were told to spread the good new to all the nations of the Earth, that Jesus was Christ, the Son of God.
By self made doctrines, I mean that each denomination has a set of rules on how their members are to worship, that are different in some ways from the others, which have no basis in Bible teachings. |
