I'd say he is going to take heat either way. This is a clone of the abortion debate- -with the same people in each group. If he bans stem cell, a fair of number of his supporters are happy but everybody else is unhappy. If he supports it, some of his supporters and many of his opponents are happy, but a fair portion of his support is incensed. If he compromises, he could end up pissing off everybody. Not at all a good position to be in. This is precisely why, when push comes to shove, the politicians are quite happy to let the courts handle the abortion isse.
