As a practical matter, one's religion is in most cases today a product of what one is raised to believe. Christ did not speak about being legitimate. Christ spoke of love and love is not judging others. I know what I believe and I don't judge what other's believe. All humans by my religion were created equal. That is the doctrine of the Catholic Church.

I feel lucky that I was raised a Catholic. I grew up with good honest tolerant folks. I never ever recollect any nay saying about other races or religions. Now that said I don't claim that I never heard a bad word. But I always judged them in context to demean the speaker. I have however heard many ascribe a lot of rubbish to what Catholics are. But then I heard lots of rubbish ascribed to all religious, all races, all creeds.
