Combjelly - Extinctions have happend throughout history. If the earth was so fragile that an extinction of a species or even a genus would through everything apart then things would be thrown apart all of the time.

Its one thing when nature causes an extinction, its another when we do it. We don't know the long term ramifications of all the damage we are doing. I think the Earth's ecological system is capable of adapting but I don't know to what degree and neither do you.

The difference between you and I is that I am not willing to risk pushing the situation much further....so are many others. So all your asking/suggesting of interesting and thought provoking questions/issues without definitive answers will do nothing to change that position....but they are interesting to entertain. <g>
