China's population is already shrinking by design.....the one child policy is the primary reason. We were told when we were there that the population which is about 1.2 billion now, will be 1.1 billion by 2010. India's population is growing and may overtake China but store front operations to determine sex of fetus are common in most major cities. Btw, the birth rates of the most highly developed nations have also been slowed to the point of near zero population growth....Germany comes most easity to mind.
