Talk radio is not by and large "ultra right wing".

It's mostly conservative. Why? One reason is because Rush Limbaugh demonstrated how successful you could become, so other people have emulated him. Another reason is (unlike T.V.), radio is a two-way medium where liberal arguments, over a relatively short amount of time, can be shown by the listeners for the ignorance contained within them. Lastly, and probably most importantly, it's because with the exception of major cities, the country is predominately conservative in it's views, and has not had an outlet for those views for a very long time.

The Democrat parties fear of talk-radio's influence is now very apparent. And it's rather amusing to witness some of it expressed here.
