We found a stand of ripe wild blueberries leaning over the water and
picked a few cups for pancakes tomorrow.

One of the things I miss most about summer in Washington instead of Maine, where I summered in my youth, is wild blueberries. There was a huge patch on the property of a camp a few miles up the road which friends of ours ran, and they were delighted to let us pick blueberries to our hearts content. Anybody who has only tasted cultivated blueberries has no idea what blueberries can taste like. The difference between home grown tomatoes and the gassed red rock varieties.
