Something else I've been noticing more of lately.

In many of the less active names I watch, I've been seeing a lot of 'tape painting'. Bid whacking, just before the stock lifts, and vice versa.

Could be the action is so thin that MM's and size buyers are desperate to goose the action their way. Who can blame them, but it makes reading the next tick even more an exercise in paranoia than usual.
