At first he was wrong, then he was rude. Follow his advice at your peril.

While risking beating a dead horse, I wanted to say that I don't think his/her original intent was to recommend anything, but to propose a strategy for consideration. I've done the same thing, hoping that someone would point out the obvious flaws in my thinking.
Yes, it did escalate from there, for whatever reason. Some people are easily excited, and the written word is a difficult medium-there's no body language, or gestures, or inflection clues to clarify the exchange. Oh well.
