Not only did stocks return zero from '66-'82, but if you factor in the heavy inflation of that era, stocks actually DECLINED buy 75%. The dividend was higher, though, than today which is not factored in when looking at just stock prices alone. But the point is well taken. Also from 1929-1953 stocks returned zero and, believe it or not, from the 40 year period of 1900-1940.
