Canada certainly has places that are remote, but I would bet the cost of living is not much different than here.
I guess it depends on what you're looking at. Real estate is still a bargain it seems. On issues though such as hotels etc I would concur with your observations re Canada. Much of our pricing however is targeted specifically at you guys. A little cheaper than home but with the same amenities, making for easy comparisons. eg. Breakfast in the US for 6 bucks and same in Canada, but in our funny money that makes it a huge saving for our American visitors.

I am sure Australia has some things that would be hard for an American to live with, but I did not find it.
The relatives notwithstanding, I haven't been myself to Australia, although that situation will be rectified :o) It's on our short list of vacation destinations. I'm looking forward to spending some time in a big country.........
